🚀 The Baltic capital making a play to become Europe’s fintech hub
Recently back from an eye-opening visit to Vilnius, where the city’s Tech Park is set to become Europe’s largest tech hub next year. The transformation here is astonishing.
The energy is palpable—driven by high-profile successes like Vinted and Nord Security. The city is pulling in both talent and capital. The fintech scene, in particular, is buzzing. Homegrown stars like payments company kevin. are making waves, while foreign giants are also setting up shop. Notably, Revolut has shifted its European operations from the UK to Vilnius, a clear sign of the city’s growing appeal.
The strategy: entice fintechs to establish their ‘EU base’ in Vilnius, building on a reputation for efficient licensing and a well-regarded sandbox for testing ideas under regulatory supervision.
While London was grappling with Brexit, others saw opportunity—Frankfurt and Paris, yes—but also Vilnius. The Lithuanian capital may host only 270 fintech firms compared to London’s 2,500, but its rate of growth is accelerating, and these things are measured in decades, not years.
Is Vilnius poised to lead Europe’s fintech revolution? Time will tell.
