The Commoditization of Cognition

US models are the Ferraris. Chinese models are the Toyotas.

Which one builds the world?

We are watching the ‘solar-ification’ (sorry) of intelligence: it becomes ubiquitous when it becomes cheap enough to waste.

OpenClaw (formerly ClawdBot then MoltBot) the open-source autonomous agent that is causing such a stir in the AI builder world has just opened its borders.

It now seamlessly integrates Moonshot AI and MiniMax alongside Western models.

It’s not an ideological pivot. It’s a balance sheet decision.

The reason is that while human users prompt once, agents loop. They prompt, check, error-correct, and prompt again. A single task can eat 50 calls.

When you are running a loop, you don’t need a Ferrari. You need a Toyota.

Moonshot’s Kimi K2.5 costs $0.58 per million input tokens. The US equivalents can cost 5x to 25x that price.

Since ChatGPT launched, the West has been obsessed with the ceiling of intelligence (reasoning capabilities). China has been obsessed with the floor (price per token).

The future of the agentic web isn’t a single super-brain residing in a San Francisco server farm. It is a swarm of cheap, good-enough workers that you can afford to run 24/7.

If you’re designing agent systems, the winning stack- the one we are deploying- is premium brains for strategy and cheap brains for execution, then measure everything in cost per finished outcome.

Quantity has a quality all its own. Especially when it costs $0.58.
